Come on Joe!
We already know that Sen. Joe Lieberman (PoJ-CT) has lost his marbles and seems more and more like a Republican every day. He’s been that way for years, probably ever since he lost his VP bid with Al Gore in 2000. When I visit with politicians, I sometimes where my “Joe Lieberman outfit”, which is a deep dark blue suit with a red shirt underneath, symbolizing Joe’s “I’m a Democrat on the outside but a red-meat Republican on the inside.”
So, what gives with Lieberman’s massive backing of the Iraq war, the escalation of troops, the support for a never-ending occupation of the country? Some had suggested he’s been angling for a slot in a Republican administration, like Secretary of State or Defense. Most think he’s been hoping for McCain to win. So, what the impact of McCain’s rapidly falling star? McCain really seems to have lost his connection with reality, after saying it was totally safe to just stroll around a Baghdad market just like you could in the US of A. He might have been able to pull off this spin if there were no photographers around. Photos show McCain (or Walnuts as Wonkette calls him) in a flak jacket with US Army troops around him in body armor. It was revealed that there were 100 US soldiers accompany McCain on his stroll, along with three to five helicopters (Blackhawks, I think). Wow, must be safe!
Anyway, for the latest on Lieberman, see this ThinkProgress piece.
